I had originally posted this in another thread, but took it out because I didn't want to detract from the lovely subject. However, I think this warrants some thought:

Both Facebook and Google are monsters. They are aggregating all sorts of info on each and every one of you, what you like, what you search for, what your pics are, where you live, who your relatives and friends and coworkers are.

Facebook bills itself as a "social media" site, but what it does is take all that info about you and repackage it to marketers. And they put cookies on your computer that continue sending info on where you've been long after you close/signout of FB.

Youtube is owned by Google and they have records on each and every video that everyone watches. Guess what they do with that info? They sell it to marketers.

Harmless, right? Not so much. Marketers are now working with Human Resources in companies to get "all the dirt" on their employees or prospective employees. They'll never tell you that's why you weren't hired.

Do yourself a favor- quit Facebook and don't use Google. If you want social, used closed communities like this one that don't track your every move forever. Search engine? Use www.duckduckgo.com - at least they scrub all searches from their history!

Now, please discuss amongst yourselves.

Well, for browsing my kinky stuff I mostly use incognito mode in browsers. On Facebook I don't appear under my real name and my Google history would leave any analyst scratching their heads since I need to google lots of varied stuff for work. Plus, I have separate email accounts under false names for any stuff like Curvage. In comparison to most people I think my privacy is relatively safe ;-)

Nearly everyone looks at porn. Liking fat women is unlikely to effect job prospects. I think they would be more concerned if you was into S and M, and all that domination stuff. Honestly liking fat women is such a mild preference when you see all that incest, fake rape, and teen fetish stuff online. And if everyone searches porn (which they probably do) then they'll have to employ one of us!

It makes completely zero sense for anyone other than google and your ISP having a clue about your porn habits.

Well, I'm glad in your company and your corner of the world there is no nexus between marketing and human resources when it comes to being considered for positions!

If it were that simple.

How about being asked to send in an email from home so they have your IP address? A lot can be gleaned from that alone.

I'd look for another job if a potential employer asked me this. Where I live the most they usally do is check your social media profiles and I think that's ok. I mean, you can always set the stuff there to private. But playing with my IP is definitely above what I'd consider permitted intrusion.

The good thing is that I'm self-employed :P
