Atkins (low carb in general) will keep you trim if you stay on it and make it a lifestyle.  It will also work as a rapid weight loss diet for anyone looking to cut a few pounds.  Her 8 pound weight loss sounds about right.  Cut out carbs and your body automatically drops 5-10 pounds; start eating carbs and your body adds 5-10 lbs.

It will be intresting to see where her weight goes moving foward.  She has admitted she really doesn't like to workout.  She is getting close to 40 now.  If she doesn't land anymore acting gigs and her love life continues to be a train wreck how will she respond?  Looks like if she does do any acting it will be another sit-com where she will have some room for a few extra pounds.  However, her days as the hottest woman in the room are rapidly coming to an end.  Right now though she still has a gorgeous body.  Perhaps she will be like Selma Hayek who claims to not exercise but contract her muscles all day to stay fit...........
